An Aztec Sacrificial Temple

The Aztecs had many monumental structures. One of them was called the Great Temple of Tenochtitlan. It was a sacrificial temple built for a deadly ritual. They believed strongly in sacrificing people to please the gods. They sascrificed at least 20,000 people a year. The temples looked like Egyptian pyramids except they didnt have a pointed top.

Aztec families had one home usually. It consisted of two main parts: the main home and a steam bath. The main house was one big room with a bedroom, a kitchen, an eating area, and usually a little family shrine.

The steam bath area was the second part of the house. The doctors thought that steam baths were therapeutic and thats why everyone had one. The furnace for the bath had to be constantly running to create the desired effect they wanted.
